Tearin’ Up Christmas is the special year-end edition of The Five Points Rounders’ Rowdy Square Dance parties. Stemming from the mountain tradition of Breaking Up Christmas (or Old Christmas)— in which traditionally each of the 12 nights of Christmas was celebrated with parties and dancing — it’s one last throwdown to finally put the holidays and the year behind us. Rowdy Square Dances are gatherings primed for wearing plaid, Shooting the Moon, Ducking for the Oyster, and meeting a batch of new friends in the midst of an Allemande Left. The dances are fast and loose (and explained beforehand), so no previous dance experience is expected; it’s great party even if you don’t dance! $5, Music by Five Points Rounders, Sarah Gibson calling.
